Biography of Martin Garrix

Early Life and Passion for Music

Martijn Garritsen, known by his stage name Martin Garrix, was born on May 14, 1996, in Amstelveen, Netherlands. He developed a passion for music at the young age of four when he started learning the guitar. By the age of eight, Garrix became interested in the DJ culture after witnessing Tiesto's performance at the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Athens. Inspired by Tiesto's track "Traffic," Martin downloaded special software and began composing his own music. He recently graduated from the Herman Brood Academy in Utrecht, a renowned producer school.

Rising Career and Success

Under various aliases, Martin Garrix wrote tracks for other artists, but only one out of his fifty compositions gained public attention. He began his career with the composition "BFAM," a collaboration with Julian Jordan. In 2012, he was named "Talent DJ of the Year" by the radio station SLAM! FM. That same year, his remix of "Your Body" was featured on the deluxe version of Christina Aguilera's album "Lotus." In 2013, Garrix and Sidney Samson released "Torrent" on Tiesto's label "Musical Freedom."

Breakthrough with Animals

Martin Garrix achieved widespread recognition with his solo release "Animals" on June 16, 2013. Recorded at the Dutch studio "Spinnin Records," the track skyrocketed to number one in Europe. Garrix became the youngest artist to reach the top spot on Beatport's online store. "Animals" also appeared on the album "Hardwell presents 'Revealed Volume 4'" by Dutch producer Hardwell. On September 30, 2013, Garrix released a remix of "Project T" by Sander Van Doorn and the Greek-Belgian duo "Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike," which quickly climbed the Beatport charts.

Continued Success and Collaborations

In November 2013, Martin Garrix signed a contract with Scooter Braun's label "Scooter Braun Projects" ("School Boy Records"). In December 2013, he collaborated with Jay Hardway on the track "Wizard," which reached the sixth position in the Belgian charts and seventeenth in the Netherlands. His collaboration with Firebeatz led to the creation of the hit track "Helicopter," which topped the Beatport Top 100 chart for two weeks. Martin Garrix performed at the Ultra Music Festival 2014, where he showcased his new and unreleased works, including collaborations with Dillon Francis, Hardwell, and Afrojack.
